Dyami Alert: European businesses operating overseas have a heightened risk level.

We should take note of the possible security risks that this response-wave may carry for individuals operating abroad. Be aware of your surroundings and be aware of the situation.

Due to rising tensions surrounding President Macron, businesses overseas with European roots have a heightened level of risk. The condemnation of Macron by governments like Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey, framing it as an attack against Muslims, carries the potential for a major international response. The subsequent defense by European leaders is being met by widespread outrage.

Today, Pakistan’s upper house of parliament has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the French president’s statement regarding Muslims and Islam. This resolution is in response to Marcon’s description of Islam as a religion ‘in crisis’ worldwide and the projection of caricatures of the prophet Muhammad. France’s response, in turn, was a statement made in reaction to the beheading of a teacher who had shown these caricatures in a class about freedom of speech, by an 18-year old Chechnyan.

The international backlash is intensifying after the Turkish president Erdogan prompted the French Foreign minister to recall its ambassador in Ankara. Iran’s foreign minister wrote on Twitter: “Muslims are the primary victims of the ‘cult of hatred’ - empowered by colonial regimes & exported by their own clients.

As a consequence of the global response, #BoycottFrenchProducts is trending. The global wave of responses is sparked by either support or condemnation on both sides. It seems that the actions of two people can create an enormous international backlash. Dutch PM Mark Rutte tweeted the following:

“President Erdogan’s words addressing President @EmmanuelMacron are unacceptable. The Netherlands stands firmly with France and for the collective values of the European Union. For the freedom of speech and against extremism and radicalism.”

The outspoken nature of both support or condemnation of President Macron seems to spark increasingly harsh responses across the world. We should take note of the possible security risks that this response-wave may carry for individuals operating abroad. Be aware of your surroundings and be aware of the situation.

#BoycottFrenchProducts is trending, calling for people around the world to stop purchasing French products as a protest. The current image was shared as a guideline for this movement.
